Raymond H. Pryor, age 67, born May 27, 1943, went to be with God on August 9, 2010 after a brief but courageous battle with leukemia. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Hazel Pryor, grandparents Floyd and Pearl Pryor and Hubert and Minnie Smothers, father-in-law James Guffey, and many more uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Guffey Pryor, daughter Kim Pryor Trussell and husband Jeff, daughter Michelle Pryor Jones and husband Chuck, grandchildren Dylan Trussell, Kelsie Jones and Hayden Jones, mother-in-law Gladys Guffey, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Billye Guffey, nephew Mike Guffey and family, special friends Eddie Rule and Billy Oliver, and a host of family and friends.
He was retired from Coca-Cola and often known to many as “Coke Man.” His greatest enjoyments in life included mowing, camping, and time spent with his family, especially his wife, girls, and beloved grandchildren. He hardly went anywhere that he didn’t run into someone he knew and rarely met a stranger that he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. He loved to be loved and loved to be needed…and he was both loved and needed by so many.
Special thanks to Dr. Wahid Hanna and the staff of Hanna Cancer Associates, the nurses and staff of 12East and Medical Critical Care at UT Hospital, and the staff of Ambulatory Infusion for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Family Life Center of Valley Grove Baptist in Knoxville or the Youth program at Cedar Grove Baptist in Maryville. The family also encourages you to be a regular blood or platelet donor at Medic.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, August 11, at Atchley’s Seymour Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:30 PM with Dr. William Sims officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10AM Thursday at Highland South Cemetery for graveside service and interment. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home Seymour, 122 Peacock Court, Seymour, TN 37865.
