Earl John Grayson, age 89 of Sevierville, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006.
He was born 29 September 1917 in the Jones Cove-Cosby area of Sevier County and was son of the late John C. and Mary Barnes Grayson. Earl worked for the Veterans Administration as a grounds maintenance worker at Knoxville National Cemetery and retired from Marietta National Cemetery in Georgia.
Earl was a member of the Fairgarden Circuit and attended Fox United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 94 and former member of Chapter 24 of Knoxville. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 10025 of Sevierville.
Mr. Grayson was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Vertie Parrott and husband Pearl, Dora Cutshaw and husband Lawson; brothers Lonas Grayson, Hobert Grayson, Walker Grayson and wife Vedia; wife Bertie Kear Grayson; sons James Grayson, Ricky Grayson, Paul Grayson and wife Virginia; son-in-law James Ed Kendrick; sisters-in-law Reba Maples and husband Hobert, Connie Rolen and husband John; brother-in-law Ray Owens; mother and father-in-law Hallick and Sara Kear.

Son: Leroy Grayson and fiancée Kathleen Proffitt
Grandchildren: Frank E. Kendrick, Mark Kendrick and wife Brandy, Betsy Addison and husband Ken, Ammanda Speaks

Sisters-in-law: Julie “Cracker” Grayson, Hannah Owens
Special friends: Ricky Jennings, Blaine Wells, Edsel Hall, Howard and Shelby Lethco, Roy Sims, Colleen Proffitt, Rev. Andy Ball and the late Rev. Orville Parton.
Special thanks to the staff on the skilled wing unit of Sevier County Health Care Center for their care, to Dr. Tolley and staff, Dr. Alan Grossman and staff, Dr. Smith and Dr. Wise of Eye Care Associates of Sevier County, Dr. David Trotter and staff and Dr. J.E. Lee and staff for the care of Earl’s pets.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Sevier County Humane Society or Gideons International.
Funeral service 6:45 PM Friday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Ball, Rev. Jerrod McCormack and Rev. David Newman officiating. Interment 10 AM Saturday in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank and Mark Kendrick, Steve Dixon, Howard Lethco, Jimmy Loveday, Stanley Cutshaw. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the DAV Chapter 94. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 104.
