GRAVES, JUANITA AUDLEY BALLARD, 97, of Knoxville went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
Juanita was born in Sevier County, TN on May 24, 1918 to Audley E. & Nova Pitner Ballard. She graduated from Harrison-Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1937. On October 5, 1941, she married Sgt. Andrew Harrison Graves who was killed in action during WWII on September 28, 1944.
Following her husband's death, she worked as a bookkeeper at Appalachian Mills and Sanford-Day Co., and later at Marmon Transmotive until her retirement in June 1983. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Seymour. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Estalee & John Moore, Sr., Jean & Clifford Taylor, Georgia & Leonard Davis, son-in-law, Howard Davis and special friend, Arthur Layman.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara G. Davis, grandson and wife Andrew & Lori Davis, and great-granddaughter, Kiersten Davis, all of Seymour. She is also survived by niece, Beverly Sparks, nephews, John Moore, Jr., Edward & Robert Davis, and their families; as well as special friends, Phyllis Thomas, Marcie Adcock and their families.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to her caregivers, Frieda Pack and Shirley Myer, and her Amedisys hospice nurse, Patti Snow, for their kindness, support, and wonderful care during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideon's International.
Visitation will be held at Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour on Sunday, January 31st from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Following the visitation, family and friends will process to Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery for a 2:30 pm graveside service with Reverend W.A. Galyon and Reverend Justin Randolph officiating.
