September 30, 1933 - March 31, 2018
Don Gibson, age 84 of Sevierville, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018. He spent Easter with his resurrected Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He retired as Vice-President following a lengthy banking career, including 46 years of service with Sevier County Bank. He was one of the original seven employees of Sevier County Bank. Two years of his banking career were spent helping establish First Federal Savings and Loan which later became Home Federal Bank. Before becoming a member of First Baptist Church, Sevierville, he had served as clerk of the Sevier County Baptist Association and as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Song Leader, and Choir Member of other Sevier County churches. He was accepted as a member of the Sons of the Revolution in October, 2004. During his life, he enjoyed camping, traveling, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and gardening. After retiring, he spent much of his time researching his and his wife’s family ancestry. He was a member of the Smoky Mountain Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. and Iva Estell McGill Gibson and infant sister, Marlene Gibson.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Patricia Ann Lawson Gibson; Daughters: Kathy Valentine (Albert), Kimberly McCarter (Rick); Son: Kevin Gibson; Grandchildren: Amy Leigh Rooks (Joi), Brooke, Austin, and Andrew McCarter, Caleb and Cole Gibson; Great Granddaughters: Carreigh Jo and Rooney Mae Rooks; many sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either: First Baptist Church, 317 Parkway, Sevierville, TN 37862; Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
The family will receive friends 4-6:45 PM Wednesday, April 4 with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Mintz officiating.
