Garner, Walker - age 67, of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at University of Tennessee Medical Center after a twelve-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He retired in 2003 from the University of Tennessee Agricultural Engineering Department as a senior instrument maker after 30 years of service. He served his country in the Army and Air National Guard Reserves for 6 years (1963-69), and attended Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Hobert McKinley Garner and Ersie Chandler Garner. Survivors Survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (Bobbi) Thomas Garner; daughter and son-in-law, Traci R. Garner and Andy Barrett; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi Garner Thomasson and Ryan Thomasson; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Don Douglass; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Wade Smith; aunts, Ovedia Bowling and Johnnie Gassaway; and other loving family members. Service The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway, followed by an 8:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Berry Funeral Home and proceed at 10:15 a.m., in procession, to Knob Creek Cemetery in Seymour for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Pallbearers are nephews Robert Smith, Lance Thomas, Chris Thomas, Kasey Thomas and 1st Lt. Art Douglass, and friend and colleague Craig Wagoner. Full military honors will be presented by East Tennessee Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue / Bob Hope Rd., Miami, Florida 33136-1494.
