GARNER, ERSIE WILL CHANDLER - age 83, of Seymour, went home to be with her Lord and loved ones Wednesday, March 21, 2001. She began her journey at her residence surrounded by family and friends, that she loved and who loved her. Mrs. Garner was a long-time member of Knob Creek Baptist Church. Ersie was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Garner ; grandson, Donald Smith; parents, Liston and Maggie Chandler ; brothers, Walker, Vonnoa and Burl Chandler ; sister, Jerri Hartman. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Smith and husband Wade P. of Fayetteville, Ga., Walker Garner and wife Bobbi Garner of Knoxville, Judy Douglass and husband Don of Seymour; grandchildren, Denise Smith of Fayetteville, Ga., Robert Smith and wife Jennifer of Richmond, Va., Nikki Phillips and husband Brian of Fayetteville, Ga., Traci Garner of Denver, Colo., Kristi Dillon and husband David of Knoxville, Angelia and Lynn Gibson of Maryville, Tsgt. Art Douglass of Seymour; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Ovedia Bowling and husband Ralph of Knoxville, Johnnie Gassaway and husband Tommy of Liberty, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friends, Mary Kirby, Glenna and Denton Glaspie and Margaret and Ray Sutton. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Drew Garner of Houston, Texas and Rev. Jim Tomlinson of Powell officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Knob Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Denton Glaspie and Ray Sutton. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Baptist Hospice and Home Health, Dr. Jennifer Kurtz and her staff and special and devoted son-in-law, Don Douglass for all the wonderful care they provided for Ersie. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of East Tennessee, PO Box 22, Knoxville, TN 37901-9932. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Rawlings Funeral Home.
