He was of the Christian faith and a veteran of the US Navy; preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Cora Ogle Franklin, Sr.; brother, Bill Franklin; and great-granddaughter, Cassie Elise Warner. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Franklin; daughters, Lois Bell (husband Jim Bell) of Morristown, Glenda Warner (husband Doug Warner) of Jefferson City, Kathy Stalnaker (husband Rex Stalnaker) of Knoxville; son, David Franklin (wife Wendy) of Jefferson City; sister, Betty F. Webb of Gatlinburg; grandchildren, David (Diana) Majors, Amy (Eric) Eggers, Andy (Amanda) Warner, Elizabeth Warner, Sherri (Casey) Johnson, Katy (Eric) Hornbeck, Patty (Shane) Jelsma, David Beemer, Jr., Sami Franklin, Courtney Franklin, Jim Bell, and Joe Bell; 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Mayes Family Services, West Chapel with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. Military graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
