Joseph (Jeff) Lewis, 93, of Newport, went to be with his Lord Monday, April 26, 2004, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was a utility man with Wall Tube and Metal before his retirement and was a member of Stokely Chapel Baptist Church. His wife, Elizabeth (Hance) Lewis; parents, Payton and Bonnie (Scott) Lewis Sr.; granddaughters, Patricia Ann Lewis, Joyce Ann Ball, and Elizabeth Ann Sprouse; sisters, Maggie Lindsey, Mildred Proffitt, and Bonnie Ailene Francis; brother, Delois Lewis, Payton Lewis Jr., Earnest Lewis, and John Burnett Lewis; sons-in-law, Rev. John M. Francis, William Crum, and Rev. Burnett Lee Paris preceded him in death. Jeff is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Francis of Newport, Hazel Crum of Newport, Bobbie (Pat) Paris of Newport, Orlola Crum and her husband Earl of Newport, Arlene Sprouse and her husband Eddie Dean of Newport, and Joan Ball and her husband Jack of Newport; sons, Jack Lewis and his wife Daner of Newport, Harold Lewis and his wife Jewell of Dandridge, and Paul Lewis and his wife Alvadean of Newport; sisters, Dorace Lewis of Newport, and Betty Jo Martin and her husband Eugene of Newport; and brother, William (Bill) Lewis and his wife Jackie of Newport; 36 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Lewis will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Stokely Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Parton and Bro. Johnny Bugg officiating. Interment will follow at Stokely Chapel Church Cemetery. Mr. Lewis will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, April 27, 2004, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
