Cora (Dorcas) Lewis, age 88, of Newport, passed away Sunday, April 08, 2007, at 3:00 am, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. She was born May 25, 1918 in, Cocke County. She was the 5th child of 12 children born to Payton Lewis, Sr., and Bonnie (Scott) Lewis. She made a profession of faith in 1946, was baptized, and joined Gregg’s Chapel Church. She was employed by Stokely Van Camp, Inc., Food Processing Department for several years. Later she went to Cleveland, Ohio, employed at Fisher Foods Inc., as head cashier and was supervisor of the Dairy Products Department, when Fisher Foods went out of business. She was employed at Danly Machine Corps, Inc., as receiving and shipping clerk, and retired from there with 30 years of service. She moved back to Newport in 1984 and took care of her mother until she passed away in 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents, Payton Lewis Sr., and Bonnie (Scott) Lewis; an infant brother; brothers, Jefferson (Jeff), Deloss, Payton Jr., (Bud), John B., Ernest Lewis; sisters, Maggie Jane Lindsey, Aline Francis, and Mildred Proffitt. She is survived by one sister, Betty Jo Martin and husband, Eugene; one brother, William E.E. (Bill) Lewis and his wife Jackie; a host of nieces, great-nieces, great-great nieces as well as nephews, great nephews and great-great nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 pm, Monday, April 9, 2007 at Manes Funeral Home, services will follow at 8:00 pm, with Dr. Rich Lloyd and Rev. Wade Holbrook officiating. Special singers will be the Camerons.Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in Union Cemetery. Special thanks to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice Nurses, Dr. Kenneth Johnson and special niece, Arlene Sprouse. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newport Television Program, 261 East Broadway, Newport, TN 37821. Ms. Lewis was not able to attend church but she looked forward to the First Baptist Church Worship service on Sunday morning and evening.
