Ernest Lewis, 68, of Newport, died suddenly Saturday at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Payton and Bonnie Lewis; sisters, Mildred Profftt, Ailene Francis and Maggie Lindsey; and brother, Deloss Lewis. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Tammy Lewis of Newport; brothers, Bill, Jeff and Payton (Bud) Lewis of Newport and John B. Lewis of Albany, Georgia; sisters, Betty Martin and Cora Lewis of Newport; grandson and wife, Jason and Michelle Lewis of Newport; granddaughter, Marcie Lewis of Newport; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Lewis of Newport; and a very special friend, Mindy Lloyd of Newport. Funeral service was held at 8 p.m. Monday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Scott Gorrell and Rev. Kenny Lloyd offciating. Interment was 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Union Cemetery.
