James Hobart "Jim" Hodges , 82, of East Ridge died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in a local hospital.
He was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and had retired from Brock Candy Co. after 40 years as plant engineer. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and was a lifetime supporter of the Tennessee Vols.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Ruby Sims Hodges , and his wife, Geneva Alice McNew Hodges .
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Hodges Winfrey of New Orleans, La.; sons, James M. Hodges of East Ridge and John C. Hodges of Chattanooga; brothers, Shelby R. Hodges of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Clyde F. Hodges of Buford, Ga.; sisters, Ruth H. Lawson and Wilma H. Watson of Sevierville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Deborah Lynn Byrd; grandson, Michael Stacy Hodges ; great-grandson, Jacob Byrd; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
