Clara "Ma" Tye Finchum, 98, of Sevierville expired August 14, 2003.
Clara was a graduate of Maryville College. A teacher, she taught at Harlan, KY, Clinton, TN, and Fairfax County, VA. Thirty-five years ago she and her husband retired to Sevierville and joined the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ralph N. Finchum, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Clara is survived by her son Dr. R. Newell Finchum and wife Sarah of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Anthony Finchum and wife Jeri, Melissa Finchum Garner and husband Kelly; great grandchildren, Tyler and Mitchell Garner, all of Birmingham, AL; sister, Jessie Tye Fullen of Bristol, VA. Besides the immediate family Clara will be missed by her niece Betty Tye Mills and husband Paul of Thomasville, NC; nephew Count B. Tye and wife Maxine of Charleston, SC and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Rev. H.B. Hauk, Jr. the minister of the First United Methodist Church of Sevierville and Rev. Bobby Ely, Chaplain at the Sevier Medical Center officiating. Interment will follow the service at Eden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 15 at Rawlings Funeral Home.
The family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate nursing staff at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center and Nursing Home, Lorene Chance, Alex and Betty Chopper, Roy and Jamaica Parrot and Dr. John Sonner.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Eden Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of, Linda Cooper, 559 Flat Creek Road, Sevierville, TN, 37876.
