Shooter, victims identified in apparent double homicide, suicide in Alcoa
By Iva Butler | (ivab@thedailytimes.com)
Investigators with Alcoa Police Department have identified the shooter and victims in the double homicide suicide discovered Sunday night in Alcoa.
Amos Turbyfill Jr. 47, 813 Maple St., Alcoa, is thought to have killed his girlfriend, Stacy Lynn Wade, 39, and her son, Joshua J. Demetri, 18, and then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. Demetri appeared to be sleeping on the couch when he was shot in the head.
Turbyfill and Wade were both in bed when shot.
Alcoa Police Capt. Dale Boring said the motive for the shootings were not yet known.
The three were found by Turbyfill's 21-year-old son.
Wade and Demetri had lived with Turbyfill less than a year, he said.
Alcoa officers have answered domestic calls to that address previously.
Turbuyfill “was arrested early last week on a warrant for simple assault against a neighbor,” Boring said.
A .40-caliber Smith and Wesson semiautomatic handgun was used in the deaths.

Police seek motives for Alcoa shootings
By J.J. Kindred | (jj.kindred@thedailytimes.com)
As the investigation continues in the shooting deaths of three people in an apparent double homicide and suicide Sunday night on Maple Street in Alcoa, investigators said there could have been several possible motives behind it.
Amos Louis Turbyfill Jr., 47, 813 Maple St., Alcoa, is thought to have killed his girlfriend, Stacy Lynn Wade, 39, and her son, Joshua J. Demetri, 18, and then turned the gun on himself.
Demetri was apparently sleeping on the couch in Turbyfill’s home when he was shot in the head. Turbyfill and Wade were found dead of shots to the head in bed with the gun between them.
A .40-caliber Smith and Wesson semiautomatic handgun was used in the shooting, according to investigators.
Alcoa Det. Kris Sanders, one of the lead investigators, told The Daily Times Thursday afternoon that domestic issues, illegal drugs and major financial issues may have played a big role in the shootings.
“The investigation is still moving forward, and I’m still working on things,” Sanders said. “There’s a lot of things involved, and I can’t say anything with a degree of certainty. A lot of things continue to play out. They were having financial problems, but was that a reason that this happened? I can’t speculate that at this time.”
The three bodies were found by Turbyfill’s 21-year-old son after he reportedly returned home from a church Super Bowl party, investigators said.
Officers were dispatched to the house at about 9 p.m., where they found the bodies. They also searched the front yard and questioned neighbors.
Alcoa police officers have answered several domestic calls to the Maple Street home. Turbyfill was arrested recently on a warrant for simple assault against a neighbor, according to Alcoa Capt. Dale Boring.
