FREELS, JOSEPH DONALD - age 87, a resident of Karns, died peacefully in his sleep early Monday morning, September 3, 2007 at NHC Healthcare on Emerald Ave. after a long battle with emphysema. Joe was born July 14, 1920 and raised in Oliver Springs, TN. He attended Robertsville schools in Oak Ridge where he graduated in 1939. He worked in the trucking industry for 45 years before retiring in 1976. His favorite pastimes were farming and gardening on his small Karns farm. He also enjoyed hunting with his friends in South Dakota and Virginia. One of his present favorite pastimes was to enjoy daily breakfast and fellowship with his many friends at the local Karns Hardees. Joe was a Christian and attended Grace Baptist Church until his illness kept him from attending regularly. He was also a member of the Charles H. McKinney Lodge# 433 in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Bessie Freels, along with many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Georgia Etherton Freels; son, Gary Alan Freels; two grandchildren, Ginger Freels Pritchard and husband, Andy Pritchard and Ryan Freels and wife, Jessica Freels; three great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Tristan and Tyler Pritchard and Sydney Freels; sisters, Audrey Wood of Clinton and Jean Simmons of Oliver Springs; sister-in-law, Margaret Etherton of Sevierville; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the nurses of NHC Healthcare for their wonderful care and support during Joe's illness. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Tyler Pritchard Eye Fund c/o Andy and Ginger Pritchard, 7012 Shalidar Dr., Knoxville, TN 37921. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Thursday, September 6th at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Hwy., Clinton, TN 37716 for an 11 am graveside service. Rev. Ron Sunderland officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 5th at Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave.
