Bessie Etherton Ray, age 85, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010, in her Ontario, Ohio home.
She was born February 5, 1925 in Dandridge, TN, to Benjamin and Bessie (Miller) Etherton.
She had been a resident of Ontario, OH since 1957, having moved there with her husband Palmer D. Ray. A homemaker, Bessie centered her life around her family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and craft making. She loved sharing a meal with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Amos (Lyian), Cleo (Pauline), Raymond, and Floyd Etherton, Velma (Otha) Russell, and Charity (Bud) Parrott, all formerly of Dandridge, and sister-in-law Tina Etherton.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 70 years, Palmer Ray of Ontario, OH; daughter Dixie (Bill) Selman of Ontario; granddaughter Kim (Tim) Deskins of Marengo; grandson Steven (Cindy) Krock of Ontario; great-grandchildren Stephanie, Marcos, Jenny Elza, Ashley, and Emma; nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister Bob Etherton, Rachel (Tom) Moore, and J. B. (JoAnn) Etherton, all of Dandridge; and Herman (Evelyn) Etherton of Knoxville; sister-in-law Charlotte Etherton; and many, many nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her beloved family in Dandridge, especially her niece Judy Hill.
Bessie loved her home and is also survived by many beloved neighbors.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Friends may visit from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield, OH.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with her son-in-law Bill Selman officiating.
Interment will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
