Rev. J. Castro Smith, D.D., of Dandridge, born June 2, 1916, in Afton, Greene County, TN, passed away after a short illness, Sunday morning, April 27, 2003, at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee.
He was a member of Dandridge First United Methodist Church.
Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar J. and Opal H. Smith; first wife, Nina E. French Smith; brothers, Vincent Smith and Samuel W. Smith; brothers-in-law, Paul Booker, Kenneth, Charles, and John French; sisters-in-law, Mildred and Reva French, Dorothy French Madison; and granddaughter-in-law, Shalyn Boone Smith.
Rev. Smith is survived by his wife, Katherine Stuart Agee Smith, of Dandridge, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Larry G. and Arlene Smith, of Austin, TX; sister, Louise Booker, of Greeneville, TN; sister-in-law, Anna Lee Smith, of Greenville, South Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William M. (Bill) and Nona R. Agee, of Newport, TN; Curtis and Evelyn French, Louise French, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Wesley H. Smith, of Bedford, TX; Scott E. Smith, of Round Rock, TX; Scott M. and Rosa Johnson, of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Amie E. Smith, Jacob W. Smith, both of Bedford, TX; Gatlin B. Smith and Aspen M. Smith, both of Round Rock, TX; Sebastian M. Johnson, of Austin, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home, 363 East Main Street, Newport, TN.
Funeral Services will be held at Dandridge First United Methodist Church, 121 E. Meeting Street, Dandridge, TN at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Dwight Kenney and Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Rev. Smith will lie in state from 1 until 2 prior to the service.
Graveside Masonic Funeral will be held in Union Cemetery, with Lynn Spangler, Master-Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Tennessee, and Chaplain Jack Ackard, Past Master of Lodge 246, New Market, TN officiating.
Interment in Union Cemetery, Newport, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dandridge First United Methodist Church Library Fund or the Choir Fund, 121 E. Meeting Street, Dandridge, TN 37725.
