Lonas L. Lunsford, 74, of Newport, passed away Tuesday at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County after a lengthy illness. He was of the Church of God faith. He was employed by Cherokee Mill for 45 years before his retirement in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lila Lunsford. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jarnigan Lunsford, of Cosby; son, Larry Lunsford, of Cosby; brothers, Ashley Lunsford and his wife, Mildred, of Sevierville; Dean Lunsford and his wife, Grace; Crayton Lunsford and his wife, Faye; and Lowell Lunsford and his wife, Wanda, all of Cosby. Services will be Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Lunsford officiating. Interment will be Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery.
