Anna Kate Vance Moncrief, age 93 of Sevierville, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006, at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. She was born in Sevier County on October 17, 1912, to George Washington Vance and Sarah Jane Christopher. Most longtime Sevier County residents will remember her as “Granny” from her son’s restaurant, “Granny’s Home Cook’n.” She began working at the restaurant when it was called Cunningham’s. Her grandchildren called her “Granny,” so when her son, George, bought the restaurant he decided to name it after her. She always had a smile on her face and a helping hand for those in need.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband Dennis P. Moncrief, sons Billy Gass and David Gass, son-in-law Xan Gibson, sisters Ruby Connatser, Bonnie Romines, and Verlena Ownby, brothers George, Bill, Ray, and Herbert Vance, and grandchildren Wayne Poole, Billy Gass, Jr., and Robby Bassett.
She is survived by:

Daughter: Sarah Gibson
