Cecile Lee Brooks Smelcer, age 94, went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2003, at the Baptist Cocke County Convalescent Center.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and a faithful church nursery worker for over 45 years. Mrs. Smelcer was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Smelcer; daughter, Dorothy Ann Hayes; son, Bobby H. Smelcer; parents, Rev. Burrell B. and Mollie Brooks; sisters, Beatrice “Tat” Boley and Bernice Gorman; brothers, Stan Brooks, Bill Brooks, and Kenneth Brooks; and son-in-law, Robert C. Hayes, Sr.
Mrs. Smelcer is survived by her daughter, Donna S. Freeman, and granddaughter, Julie M. Freeman, of Newport; grandsons and wives, Robert C. “Toby” and Cece Hayes, Jr., of Waynesville, NC, and Marty and Sherry Hayes, of Cherryville, NC; great-grandchildren, Austin and Sam Hayes, of Waynesville, NC, and Evon and Daniel Hayes, of Cherryville, NC.
Vistation will be at Manes Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 26th, from 6 until 8 p.m. with a memorial service following at 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted by Rob Myers and Dean Williams.
Interment Thursday, March 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newport.
Manes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
