BUTLER - James R. Whaley , Sr., 67, of Butler, GA passed away on June 25, 2004 after fighting a two-year battle with cancer. You may visit with the family and pay your respects at Edwards Funeral Home, Butler, GA. -Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Butler, GA on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 11A.M. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. -Mr. Whaley was born March 19, 1937 in Knoxville, TN to the late James Walter and Mamie Ellen (Latham) Whaley . Mr. Whaley was a long time resident of Lemont and Cicero, IL. He retired after 39 years as a Manager for Brach Candy Co. He was a twice Past Master of Pleiades Lodge #478 AF and AM of Westchester, IL. After his retirement, he moved to Butler, GA in 1996 where he pursued his love for raising cattle and caring for his beloved farm. -His son, Paul H. Whaley , preceded Mr. Whaley in death. -He is survived by his wife, Mary Joan (Szarek) Whaley ; two sons, James R. Whaley , Jr. of Mauk, GA and Thomas W. (Jana) Whaley , Sr. of Butler, GA; two daughters Mary Ellen ( Whaley ) Sweeney of Butler, GA and Deborah Ann ( Whaley ) (Greg) Grobarcik of Westmont, IL; nine grandchildren, Candace Sweeney, Justin Whaley , Rebecca Sweeney, Paul Whaley , Elizabeth Whaley , Tabatha Sweeney, Brittany Whaley , Tyler Whaley , and Thomas Whaley , Jr. (T.J.); one sister, Edna ( Collins) (Oscar) Martin of Washburn, TN; along with numerous nieces and nephews. -Edwards Funeral Home of Butler is in charge of arrangements.
