William Shannon “Shan” Bush, age 91, owner and president of Bush Construction Company, Inc., died at his home on Friday, September 2, 2005 surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 14, 1914 in Chestnut Hill, TN, Jefferson County. He was the son of Jess and Ollie Bush. He was united in marriage to Edna Greene on Feb. 15, 1945 in Newport, TN. They have lived beside Bush Construction Company since 1975.
In 1951, Shan began a construction company that became known as Bush Construction Company. He managed the company until 1983 when he retired from the company. His lifelong work and love was Bush Construction Company.
Shan was member of West End Baptist Church where he attended until his illness. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, Shriner, and a Jester. He was avidly involved in serving the community through the Shrine Paper Sale, and it is still based on his properties. He served on the Newport Rescue Squad Board of Directors many years ago. Shan was always involved in the community and spent his life serving and helping others throughout Cocke County.
Shan spent his life caring for his family.
He enjoyed camping, University of Tennessee Football, and stockcar racing. Shan is preceded in death by his father, Jess Bush and his mother, Ollie Bush; his brother James Bush; and a special sister-in-law, Eula Greene.
Shan is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Edna Bush; his daughter, Bettye Bush Grooms and Marvin Keys; his grandson, Shannon Bush Grooms and his wife, Kathy Grooms; great-grandchildren, William Charles Bush Grooms and Sarah Beth Grooms; sisters, Zola Mae Ketner of Dandridge, TN, Mamie C. Hughes and husband Ponder of Dandridge, TN, Priscilla Jane Garrett, Anniston, AL; brother-in-law, Buck Greene; special nephew, Roger Greene and his wife Margaret of Newport, TN; special niece, Amanda Greene Peters and husband Bill Peters of Austin, TX; special friends, Marvin Keys, Mary and Billy Violet, Dan Grooms, Ann Watts, and Helen Bush.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2005 followed by the funeral service. The interment will be at Union Cemetery on September 5th at 11 a.m. Dr. Charlie Boggan and Tom Mooty will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cocke County Shrine Paper Sale or the Newport Rescue Squad.
The family would especially like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, Tammy Francis, Danese Ball, Charlie Grooms, Betty Strange, Judy Yates, Mary Greene, and Charlie Boggan for their special care.
