Claudia Larue “Short” Helton
Claudia Larue “Short” Helton, 64, of Sevierville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at her residence.
Claudia, whom everyone knew as “Short”, was a well-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister to her family that she loved dearly. She will be remembered for her love of life and for her sunny disposition. “Short” was of the Baptist faith and took service to her Lord as a high priority. When Wagner’s started, she went to work for them and worked until the doors were closed.
Waiting for Claudia to join them in Heaven is her father, Earl Gibson; sister, Veda Cogdill; brother-in-law, Conley Elmore.
Leaving behind to mourn her passing but celebrating her life is her husband, Gerald Dee Helton; mother, Lela Rogers Gibson; children, Eddie Helton and wife Kelly, Jeff Helton and wife Kim, Penny Matthews and husband Lee, Scotty Helton and wife Linda, Travis Helton and wife Sheryl all of Sevier County; grandchildren, Bryan, Tyler, Kelsey, Ashton, Nicole, Elijah, Ella-Marie, Garrett, Laney, Josh and Jacob Helton, Tonya Roberts, Jason and April Matthews; great-grandchildren, Bryce Roberts and Aiyana Helton; brothers, Junior Gibson and wife Fleeta, J.E. Gibson and wife Wilma, Davey and Eldon Gibson; sisters, Velma Carter, Carolyn Elmore, Gladys Burney and husband Donnie, Kay Dellinger and husband Jimmy, Karen Gibson. Besides her immediate family, “Short” will be missed by her special friends, Evelyn Hicks, Peggy Lowe, Shelma Rayfield, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends whose lives she has touched.
Graveside service, weather permitting, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Ernie Coleman officiating. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Rawlings Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22 at Rawlings Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Covenant Health Hospice for the wonderful care they gave “Short”.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Cancer Fund, Children’s Hospital and Sevier County Nursing Home.
