OWNBY, Mary Ruth, 86, formerly of Richmond, Va., passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016, in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a public school teacher for 31 years. She was a member of Ridge Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for eight years and Sunday School Director for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Ownby ; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Cardwell; and brother, Bob Cardwell. She is survived by three sons, Lee (Carol) Ownby of Knoxville, Tenn., Dean (Susan) of Kansas City, Mo., and Steve (Andrea) Ownby of Larkspur, Colo.; grandchildren, Drew (Milea) Ownby , Craig (Amanda) Ownby , Emily (Thomas) Jennings, Matthew (Junko) Ownby , Lauren (Eric) Ketner and Brian Ownby and Eric Ownby ; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Paisley and Everett Ownby . She is also survived by her sister, Leunah "Doodle" Tipton; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond , Va ., with the service to follow at 1 p.m. at Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 Eastridge Rd., Burial at Westhampton Memorial Park will follow.
