CENTERVIEW--A benefit set for Saturday, June 7, starting at 4 p.m. at Centerview Ruritan Club will benefit a well-known musician who was seriously injured in an accident this past March.
Bobby Loveday is a talented musician who has played music since he was only 5. According to friends, he has performed with some of the "old time greats," such as Kenny Baker, who hopes to attend the benefit; Conway Twitty, Connie Smith, Tex Ritter, and others.
In addition, he played with several bands, including Johnny Kiser and the Southern Sounds and has performed at several festivals and other local events, including the Cosby Ruritan Ramp Festival.
In 2006, he gave guitar lessons off Main Street in Newport. Most recently, he has been a regular musician at Mom's House, off Baysinger Road in Bybee.
While trimming trees on March 22, a large limb fell onto the ladder Loveday was standing on, which knocked him some 15 or more feet to the ground.
He was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His injuries included four broken vertebrae, seven fractured ribs, a brain concussion, a collapsed lung, and other injuries.
According to Rose Lovell, a friend of the Loveday family, although he has returned home to recuperate, Loveday remains in serious condition.
She said doctors have told him it would be at least a year before he can work again, and possibly, he won't be able to work then.
"He is self-employed and has no income at this time," she said. "Bobby is not only known for his wonderful musical talents, but also for helping others who are in need. He is always ready to help everyone he can."
She said Loveday's wife, Brenda, and his family have stayed by his side caring for him since the accident.
Loveday attends Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church.
"We ask that every church, organization, or citizen who has been blessed to show their appreciation to someone who has given of himself so many times to help others. We ask for donations or auction items for this event," she added.
She said any auction items, as well as cakes or pies will be greatly appreciated.
"He is asking for the community's prayers more than anything," she concluded.
From 4 to 6 p.m. on June 7, hamburger and hot dog plates with side items, dessert, and a drink will be available for $5 each. Carry-out plates will be available.
There will be music by Glory Bound, Hurricane Ridge, and others.
At 6 p.m., Luke Goddard will conduct the auction.
