Funeral services were held Monday at Kodak United Methodist Church for John L. Ellis, a former longtime purchasing agent for the city of Knoxville. He died Saturday at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at the age of 73.
A former World War II Naval fighter pilot, Mr. Ellis began working in the city's purchasing department in the 1950s. He retired as purchasing agent in November 1976. He also served on the board at the Sevier County Hospital-Nursing Home during the 1970s.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife, Edna Iams Ellis; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Ellis and Roger Richardson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Toni Ellis of Knoxville and Scott and Melanie Ellis of Kodak.
