PICKEL, ROBERT R. - of 2837 Willa View Dr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn., died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at 2 p.m. in Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tenn. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge for more than 50 years where he served as trustee for many years and helped to obtain the property to relocate the church from the old site across the river on the hill to the present site on the parkway. He was instrumental in helping to get the City of Pigeon Forge incorporated and moving toward the great success it is now; he served several years on the city commission and three terms as mayor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam A. and Nancy Ogle Pickel; sisters, Kathryn Patton and Bonnie Clabo; brothers, Sam, Car., C.A. (Chock), and John Dee Pickel.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Willa "Billie" McCarter Pickel, Pigeon Forge; children, Barbara Pickel Inscho, Maryville, Paul Inscho, Madisonville, Don and Peggy Pickel, Pigeon Forge, and Jerry Pickel, Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Darrell Pickel, Pigeon Forge; sisters, Annabel Greene, Harlan, Ky., Mary Dell Ryder, Cape May Court House, N.J.; sister-in-law, Della Pickel, Pigeon Forge; grandchildren, Sara Inscho Johnson, Dawn Pickel, Sharon Pickel Brandenburg, Randy and Michelle Pickel Singleton, Nathan and Paul Inscho Trentham, Bret Pickel and Robbie Pickel; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Zachary Brandenburg, Andy, Beth, Anne and Abby Singleton, Madison Pickel, Elizabeth Trentham and Ian Pickel; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers are sons, grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are members of Good Will Sunday school class and members of Pigeon Forge City Commission, both past and present. Friends will be received at Atchley's Smoky Mountain Chapel in Pigeon Forge on Monday, May 31, from 6-7 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. with Revs. Melvin Carr, Wayne Cook, and Randy Singleton officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens in Pigeon Forge. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge, P.O. Box 98, Pigeon Forge, TN 37868.
