Mr. Cate retired after over 40 years with Philips Consumer Electronics (Magnavox) and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was born and reared in Sevier County and was a graduate of Sevier County High School. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Jones Cate; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Todd Ross of Gatlinburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ryan Cate, Russell and Amy Brooks of Greeneville: grandchildren, Candice and husband Evin Cole, Heather Woodby, Gavin Cate, Kendy L. Cate, Makayla Cate, Austin Brooks, Garrison Brooks, Weston Brooks; great-granddaughter, Catherine Cole; sister-in-law, Brenda Thomas and husband Tommy; two brothers-in-law, J. C. Jones and wife Shannon, Johnny Jones and wife Margaret; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a son of the late Troy and Lucille Cate and was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Cate; a brother, Robert Gene Cate; and a baby sister, Linda Joyce Cate. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ronnie Duncan officiating. Memorials may be made to Amedysis Hospice, who had taken such good care of Jerry during his illness. Also, a special thank-you is extended to Dr. Aasheim for his compassion and care.
