Ruth Carter Holbert, age 99, passed away June 12, 2012. She was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, K. E. Holbert; parents, James A. Carter and Harriett Kirby Carter of Pigeon Forge, TN, five brothers and a sister. Survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. Ruth and her husband, K. E. Holbert, owned and operated Holbert’s Furniture Company, Corbin, Kentucky, where they lived for 37 years. She was active in the United Methodist Church, Women’s Club, Friday Book Club, Corbin Country Club and the Corbin Chamber of Commerce. She worked many years in the annual Nibroc (Corbin spelled backwards) Festival. Ruth and K. E. retired and moved to Sarasota, FL where they were active in the First United Methodist Church for 12 years. They returned home to East Tennessee in 1987 where they rejoined the Fountain City Methodist Church after an absence of 54 years. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Fountain City United Methodist Church, 212 Hotel Ave, Knoxville, TN 37918. Funeral service will be held 12 PM, Tuesday, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Rev. Dan Kelly officiating. Interment following service at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Christian Fellowship Class, The Joy Club and the Singles Club. The family will receive friends 11-12 PM, Tuesday, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
