PARKER, REV. WYATT M - age 79 of Knoxville passed away January 1st, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospice in Halls. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, TN, and an active member of the Knoxville Choral Society for many years. He retired in 1996 while serving as pastor of 5th Avenue Baptist Church of Knoxville. Previously, he served as Minister of Music at 1st Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge. Rev. Parker began his ministry serving churches in Kentucky and Virginia before accepting the call to missionary service through the Southern Baptist Convention. While on the mission field in Brazil, he started numerous churches, founded the Baptist Conservatory of Music in Fortaleza, Cear?, Brazil, and taught at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Rio de Janeiro. While on leave from the mission field, he founded and pastored University Baptist Church of Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis and Floride Parker of Knoxville; and brother, James Curtis Parker. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Cosette Carter Parker; sister Floride Young of Knoxville; daughters, Christine Baker of Richmond, VA and Rebecca Eck of Plano, TX; sons, James N. Parker of Farmersville, TX and John W. Parker of Middlesboro, KY; and many grand and great grandchildren. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at St. Mary's Hospice and St. Mary's Hospital, and to the countless friends and church members who supported him and his family through this time. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Knoxville, TN. A church service, celebrating his life, will follow at 6:30 PM, led by William Shiell, Ph.D. Interment will be at Lynnhurst Cemetery on Adair Dr. in Fountain City at 3 PM on Friday, January 4, 2008.
