Manning, James Thomas, “J.T.,” age 90, of Knoxville, died suddenly, December 1 2008. He was born December 23, 1917, in Knoxville. His parents were Jack Manning and Mary Netherland Vance. J.T. was retired from the dye department and Quali-Crafters division of Standard Knitting Mills. He was a member of the 1937 Knoxville High School “national championship” football team. J.T. was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He sang in the choir at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, was a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 645, and was a member of AA with 37 years of sobriety. Preceded in death by wife, Mary Bush Manning; brothers, John and Frank Manning; sisters, Ann Long and Catherine Smith.
Survivors
Survivors: daughter Marilyn and husband Tommy Moon of Woodford, VA; daughter Kathy of Knoxville; brother, Gus Manning of Knoxville; sister, Eleanor Martin of Diana, TX; sister-in-law Mary Ann Manning of Oak Ridge; several nieces and nephews.
Service
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to: Young-Williams Animal Center, 3201 Division Street, Knoxville, TN, 37919. The family will receive friends at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel, Thursday, from 6 pm until the 8 pm Rosary service. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Friday at 10 am.
