Mrs. Newsome's body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Chapel in Greensboro, N.C., and the Newsome family will be receiving friends at the home of Lori Graham, 3891 Tonsley Place in High Point. Gladys was born on September 29, 1929, in Sevier County, Tenn. to the late O.H. and Pearly Flynn Byrd. She worked for Wrangler/Blue Bell as a seamstress until her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland E. Newsome, Jr.; and her daughter, Doris L. Smith. Surviving are her granddaughters, Donna Lesser of Black Mountain, Wendy Gibson of Kernersville and Lori Graham and husband, David of High Point; son-in-law, David Lesser of Richlands; several brothers and sisters; great-grandchildren, Joshua Lesser and Erin Graham; several nieces and nephews; and lifetime friends, Magdalene McCullen and Linda Tichauer. Mrs. Newsome's body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Chapel and the Newsome family will be receiving friends at the home of Lori Graham, 3891 Tonsley Place in High Point (336-869-9066).
