(August 16, 1916 - September 9, 2009) Vege Mayfield Ownby, age 93, of Newport, passed away, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Tacoma Hospital in Greeneville, TN, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Ownby; parents, and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ownby Lewis of Newport; special son-in-law, James Lewis and wife Terri; sister-in-law, Lucy Mayfield of Greer, SC; several nieces and nephews; also her extended family, Gail Collins and husband Don of Newport, Donna and Wade Tippins and children, Cody and Alex of Birmingham, Al, Greg Collins of Los Angeles, California. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, September 11, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are to be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum.
