Peggy Lane unopposed for Cocke County Clerk in Republican primary
NEWPORT-Incumbent Peggy W. Lane will be unopposed for the office of the Cocke County Circuit Court Clerk in the May 4 Cocke County Republican Primary.
Lane's experience in the Circuit Court Clerk's office dates to 1972 when she began work there as a deputy clerk. In 1982, she ran for the office itself and was elected and has held the job since.
During her years as Circuit Court Clerk, Lane has overseen an increasingly busy and crowded office. In addition to Criminal, Civil, and Child Support cases heard by the four Circuit Court Judges and Child Support Referee, Lane and her staff assist the public, along with the Offices of Child Support Enforcement, Community Corrections, State Probation, Department of Corrections, the District Attorney General, the public defenders, attorneys, and the local jail.
"I am truly honored to have been able to work for the citizens of Cocke County and sincerely appreciate your confidence and trust you have placed in me," Lane said.
"I would also like to thank my staff for all of their hard work. The courtesy and concern that they show in doing their jobs have helped me to maintain an efficient office. I also want to express my gratitude to my family and friends. Without their love and support, I would not have been able to seek this position and continue doing it for so long," she added.
Lane is the wife of the late Johnny R. Lane and the daughter of the late Paul and Nora Wilson. She is the mother of two sons, David and Tony Lane. "I have two wonderful grandchildren, Chelsea and Jordan, and two beautiful step-granddaughters, Tiffany and Cilicia," she said.
Lane, a Cocke County native, loves on Bogard Road.
"Even though I am unopposed, I would like to ask the citizens of Cocke County for their complimentary vote for the office of Circuit Court Clerk. Again, it has been my greatest honor to have served you," she concluded.
