John Henry Green, 94, of Pittman Center went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 13, 2003. He was born February 12, 1909 at his parent’s home on the banks of the Middle Prong of the Pigeon River. He enjoyed a long, loving, and hard working life as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, World War II veteran, woodsman, farmer and storekeeper. Mr. Green was the oldest surviving World War II veteran from Sevier County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milas and Nancy Green; daughter, Juanita Hodge; brothers, James Arthur, Charlie, Jack, Dave and Woodrow; sisters, Nellie Green, Miley Jane McMahan, Addie Lindsey, Minnie Whaley, and Levy Valentine.

Funeral service 7 PM Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Carr officiating. Interment 11 AM Thursday at Headrick’s Cemetery in Pittman Center with military honors provided by Amercian Legion Post #104. Pallbearers will be Gary Ledford, Rusty Oakley, Kent Green, Jimmy Cole, Kevin Howard, Lucas and Logan Ledford. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
