Rufus (Russ) Ray Maples, Jr., age 66 of Nappanee, IN, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008. Born April 7, 1942 in Sevierville, TN, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman who was once President of the Plymouth Chapter of MARCO Bassmasters. He was also a talented musician and enjoyed playing and singing bluegrass and gospel music on his guitar. Mr. Maples was an entrepreneur who started and ran two successful businesses. He was the rock of his family, because he was always there to help and offer his southern hospitality and advice to anyone who needed it. He was a member of New Beginnings Assembly of God in Nappanee where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his father Rufus Ray Maples, Sr.

Funeral service 2 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #104. The family will receive friends 12-2 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
