July 13, 1938 - September 23, 2017
Bobby Joe McCarter, age 79 of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Jefferson County Health and Rehab Center after a valiant battle with a long illness.
Bobby was born to J.B. McCarter and Susie (Monroe) McCarter on July 13, 1938 in Maynardville. Tennessee. He spent several years growing up in Johnson City, Tennessee. Bobby was a charter member of the First Red Bank Baptist Church.
Bobby proudly served his country for six years in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed by the Sevier County, Tennessee Government as a probation officer for approximately 32 years and a deputy sheriff for Sevier County Sherriff’s Office. He was a charter member of the Sevier County Civil Air Patrol; he was one of the first certified paramedics at Sevier County Ambulance Service; he was an active member and past President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Smoky Mountain Lodge #31; active member of American Legion, Sevierville Chapter, Post 104, charter member of the Sevier County Marine Corps League detachment #1206. He leaves a legacy of love and integrity with his family and all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael McCarter, brothers-in-law, Art Johnson and Bob Reneau and sister-in-law, Carole McCarter.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Jeffery W McCarter and wife Glenna; Step-Daughter: Michelle Clinton Prater; Grandchildren: Madison McCarter, Neil Havener (Anna); Jessica Chambers (Logan); Great-Grandchildren: Bryson Chambers; Fischer Havener; Kaylee Chambers; Brooks Havener; Sisters: Patricia Johnson, Brenda Reneau, Deborah Morris (Jim); Brother: Philip (Phil) McCarter; Sister-in-Law; Mary McCarter (Mike); Many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends included Vernon Carbine, Larry Helton, JC Lane and Jerry King.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the: Sevierville Marine Corp League, Detachment #1206; Salvation Army of the Smoky Mountains; or Parkinson’s Tennessee Inc. Knoxville, TN
The family will receive friends 5-6:45 PM Tuesday with funeral service following at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Jester and Jim Maples officiating. Interment will be 10 AM Wednesday in Alder Branch Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #104.
