June 6, 1947 - September 14, 2017
Roger Lynn Worthington, age 71, of Seymour, TN, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was born June 6, 1947 in Briceville, TN. To Sam and Edna Housley Worthington. Sam was a coal miner and Edna was a homemaker and cook. Roger went by his nickname “Rod” when he was 11 years old the family moved to Ohio to find work. Roger went to schools in Cleveland and Northfield, Ohio, from high school he enlisted in the Army. After basic training he was sent to Vietnam. Upon finishing his military service he had various occupations. He was an 18 Wheel truck driver in Knoxville TN. Until retirement. His hobbies were fishing, Baseball, and watching the Volunteers play football. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Abbott who passed in 2003, sister, Kathy “Sis” Worthington, brother, Stanley Worthington, He is survived by sisters, Audrey W. Hedlund of Council Bluff, Iowa, Lavada Worthington of Oak Ridge, TN, brothers, Tom Worthington (Wanda) of Ravenna, Ohio, Carl Worthington (Sue), of Crossville, TN., nephews, David Hedlund of Minnesota, Tommy Worthington of Ohio, James Worthington of Ohio, Chris Worthington of Ohio, Aaron Worthington of Crossville, TN, Richard Kokish of Ohio, nieces, Beverly Russell of Ohio, Heather Conway of Ohio, Samantha Kokish of Ohio, Diana Kokish of Ohio, Madelyn Worthington of Ohio, special cousins, Jaqueline Castro of Ohio, Ann Rehak of Ohio, Linda Bosley of Kentucky, and Arnold Craig of Texas. Roger is also survived by his fiancé and caregiver Debra Johnson. The family would like to express their gratitude to her for her loving care of Roger during his illness. Funeral service 1 PM Wednesday in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel with Rev. Ronald Russell officiating. Interment will follow East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy, with American Legion Post 104 providing military Honors.
