He was a member of Cosby Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing and playing the dobro. Mr. Smelcer was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lawson and Ota Smelcer; brothers, Giles Perman Smelcer and Wayne Smelcer; sisters, Virlmae Houk and Irene Rolen. Survivors include his Wife of 50 years: Dolly Maples Smelcer Sons: Giles Smelcer and wife Anne, Nathan Smelcer and wife Mandy, Daniel Smelcer and girlfriend Wendy Stewart; grandchildren, Kela Trouten and husband Brian and their daughter, Courtney; Adam Smelcer and wife Paige and their son Dryden; Walter Webb and wife Heather and their children Kain and Mollie; Nathan Smelcer, Katlynn Smelcer, Ian Smelcer; brother, Virlus Ray Smelcer; sisters, Faye Barnes of Dryden Washington, Janella Kay Loveday; sister-in-law, Ruth Smelcer; brother-in-law Bud Brown; several nieces, nephews and his CB family. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Saturday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home.
