April 17, 1932 - June 18, 2017 Resided in Dothan, AL LTC Russell David Nelson (U.S. Army Retired), age 85, a resident of Dothan, AL passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. LTC Nelson was born April 17, 1932 in Miami, Florida and moved to Dandridge, Tennessee at an early age. He graduated from Maury High School where he played basketball. He attended the University of Tennessee prior to an extensive military career in the U.S. Army. He was a highly decorated Veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War having served as an aviator and engineer for over 25 years. He later served as a flight instructor at Ft. Rucker for 14 years. He was a resident of Enterprise from 1978-2008 prior to moving to Dothan to be closer to family. He was preceded in death by his wife Alda E. Huskey Nelson, his parents, Ira and Cora Lea Nelson, and his sister and brother-in-law, June and Edwin Davis. Survivors include his sons, Richard (Debbie) Nelson and David (Gina) Nelson; a grandson, Zachary Glenn Nelson; sisters, Ginger (Brad) Claybon and Iris (Carroll) Rogers; several nieces and nephews. Memorial service 11 AM Friday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with graveside service following in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #104.
