Winkle, Fredrick Samuel, Jr., age 86, of South Knoxville, went home to be with his Savior on July 21, 2009 at 10:15 AM surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Winkle was honored to serve his country in the US Navy in World War II and was a longtime member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. His favorite past time was building houses for Eastern Bluebirds and teaching them to come to eat when he rang a bell. Mr. Winkle was retired from McCormick Spice Company after many years of distinguished service. Mr. Winkle was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Samuel Winkle, Sr. and Beatrice Eggers Winkle Henderlight; his beloved wife of 27 years, Velma Ogle Winkle; brother Ralph Winkle; sister, Lucille Davis; and brother-in-law, Charles Sutton.
Survivors
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Phil; daughter-in-law, Lisa and granddaughter, Lindsay Christine; sisters-in-law: Wilma Ogle Sutton and Mary Ann Winkle Townsend; brother-in-law, Roy Ogle and wife Katy; nephews: David, Andy, Mike, and Bobby Winkle; Mike Ogle and families; nieces, Teresa Winkle Manning and Peggy Lynne Ogle Elrod and families; and very special friend Gladys York and family. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Brakebill Nursing Home and to Josh, Melissa, and Vivian at Home Health Management Group for providing such love and care for Poppaw Fred.
Service
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday at 1:00 PM for graveside services, Rev. David Harkins officiating. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
