July 25, 1931 - February 1, 2016
Det. William H. "Dub" Ogle, Jr., age 84 has at last received his wings on Monday, February 1, 2016. After serving in the Army in Korea from 1951-1953 W H Ogle, Jr started in law enforcement in 1962 with the Gatlinburg Police Department under chiefs Brownlee Reagan, Wib Ogle, Buddy Leatherwood, Jimmy Kelly, Harry Montgomery and Randy Brackins. He served with probably the largest number of officers in the county as any officer. He worked continuously as Deputy Sheriff or Chief Deputy with Sheriffs Ray Noland, Millard (Bat) Gibson, Carmen Townsend, Bruce Montgomery, Hoss Seals, and also Bobby Stenson, of Cocke County. Dub worked as criminal investigator for the 2nd Judicial Circuit Courts assigned to Sevier, Jefferson, and Cocke County under Judge George Sheppard. He worked with Judge Ray L. Reagan to set up Juvenile Court alongside Andrew Kerr and Sandy Chambers. He also worked with his longtime friends, Judge Henry Ogle when he served as Juvenile Judge. He served as process server with both Chancery and Circuit Courts for several years. He served as Assistant Chief Detective for the City of Gatlinburg from 1978-2008. Dub also served as Constable in the 11th district from 1990-2002 alongside his son Bryan L. Ogle (7th district Constable). He served 3 years as Gatlinburg Property Security Director. Dub was Certified Officer trained at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in Donaldson, TN. He earned more than 30 Donaldson Training Certifications, some of which were: Appalachian State University Interrogation Technics, Counter Intelligence and Security Inc. Psychological Stress Testing and Examination, Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy Juvenile Officer School, Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy Police Officer Training, Tennessee Department of Public Health and Emergency Medical Services, Tennessee Law Enforcement Planning Commission, Public Officer Certification, Doppler Radar Certification, Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy Criminal Investigation I, II, and III, Bureau of Criminal Indentification for State of Tennessee, and East Tennessee Development District, Law Enforcement Training Program 31 years consecutive in Service Officer Training. He was a member of First Baptist Church Gatlinburg and an early member of Roaring Fork Baptist Church, member of the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police Mtn Lodge # 31, Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association and a member of the American Legion Post #202 for over 50 years. W.H. ended his career with 46 years of service to the community he grew up in and loved. He had flaws like everyone. He taught his kids to stand up for themselves and not be ashamed to say what they feel. "Let people know where they stand", friend or foe. He had many friends and several enemies over the years. His friends always knew who they were and enemies knew also. If you weren't sure, all you had to do was ask. He is preceded in death by his parents William H. "Pop" Ogle and Sarah E. "Mom" Ogle, brothers; Quinton , Odis, and Cliff, sisters, Ida and Barbara all of Gatlinburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Linda P. Ogle and her children Carl "Casper" Shahan and Regina S. Shahan, also by his former wife Lois O. Rodenberger and their children Steve and Jan W. Ogle, Bryan L. Ogle and Melinda and Jimmy Barnes. 7 grandchildren: Megan, Bryan Lee, Isaac, Seth, Jade, Barbara Lynn and Austin, 6 great grandchildren: Grady, Ethan, Jaylee, Kensey, Gavin and River; Sisters: Ezalee Roberts, Martha Chambers and Elsie "Beige" Cole Ogle. He said he had one thing he always believed in, the American Legion Post # 202 in Gatlinburg. His family asks that memorial gifts be sent to Post #202 in his memory. He will forever be in our hearts, on our minds and always in our stories. As per his request, there will be no public service. He said he would see his friends again in time. To his enemies, if you know W.H. Ogle, Jr, I don't have to go there! Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
