Robert Lee Ogle, Jr., 81, of Sevierville passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Sevier County Health Care Center.
Mr. Ogle was born January 25, 1922 to the late Robert Lee and Leona Brown Ogle, Sr. in Loudon County. At an early age he and his family moved to Sevier County where he made his home and raised his family. On September 12, 1942 he married his sweetheart, Loris Tarwater Ogle.
Robert graduated from Sevier County High School and then attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and University of Tennessee where he graduated. After graduation he attended the University of Tennessee Law School. He served his country during WWII in the United States Air Force where he proudly served for 2 years.
After serving his country, he returned to Sevier County where he practiced law for 53 years and served as mayor of Sevierville. As a civic-minded member of the community he was a member of the American Legion where he served as a district commander and other offices in this organization. He was also a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Sevier County Bar Association, Sevierville Rotary Club and a delegate to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention as well as a Grand Master of the Masonic Temple. Robert was also an avid Sevier County High School sports enthusiast.
Besides all of the time and dedication to his community, he was also a member of the Sevierville First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Loris Tarwater Ogle, Robert leaves behind to mourn his passing, daughters, Lisa O. Atchley and Nancy O. Hayes and husband William; grandchildren, Thomas R. Atchley, Charlotte K. Hayes, Daniel L. Atchley, Allison L. Hayes, Claire, E. Atchley; sister, Kathryn Mize; sister-in-law, Nelle Hatcher; brother-in-law, C.H. Tarwater and wife Betty. Besides the immediate family, many other relatives and a host of friends and colleagues whose lives he has touched during his life will miss Robert.
Service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Sevierville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Ely, Rev. H.B. Hauk and Rev. Scott Brady officiating. Gary Wade will giving an eulogy for Robert and the life of public service that he has given to his community. Interment will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7 at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6 at Sevierville First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the building fund of Sevierville First United Methodist Church, 214 Cedar Street, Sevierville, TN 37862, 865.453.5754.

SEVIERVILLE - Former Sevierville Mayor Robert Lee Ogle Jr. was known as a competitor, said current Sevierville Mayor Bryan Atchley, who grew up as his next door neighbor.
"When we played racquetball, I didn't want to play him," laughed Atchley. "Bob was always fun to be around. He was a good friend - a good personal friend and a good business friend."
Ogle, 81, died Saturday at Sevier County Health Care Center.
"I was very sad to hear of his death. I will miss him," said Atchley.
"He was a good boss and a good person to work for," said Tura Loose, Ogle's office secretary for five years. "It was a great experience."
Ogle was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Loudon County. A graduate of Sevier County High School, Ogle attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and graduated the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He attended the University of Tennessee Law School, then served his country for two years during World War II in the United States Air Force.
After his military duty ended, he returned to Sevier County and practiced law for 53 years and served as mayor of Sevierville.
Ogle was a member of the American Legion, serving as district commander and in other offices. He was also a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Sevier County Bar Association, Sevierville Rotary Club and served as a delegate to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention and as Grand Master of the Masonic Temple.
Ogle was a member of Sevierville First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was also an avid sports fan.
Ogle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loris Tarwater Ogle; two daughters, Lisa Atchley and Nancy Hayes; a sister, Kathryn Mize; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. today at Sevierville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Ely, the Rev. H.B. Hauk and the Rev. Scott Brady officiating. Judge Gary Wade will give a eulogy.
Internment will be a 4 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at the church.
