ROGERS, EUGENE W. - passed away at his home on Saturday November 14, 2009. He was a veteran of WWII having served as a medic in the Army Air Corps. He retired from Kingston Steam Plant after 35 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church for 53 years and tireless worker in God's Little Storehouse food pantry. An avid gardener, beekeeper, sportsman and woodworker. He was made Honorary Tennessee Colonel by Gov. Phil Bredeson in 2003. Preceded in death by parents William and Tisha Rogers; son Michael Lynn Rogers; brother Otis Rogers and sisters Dorothy Compton and Genita Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene W. Rogers; brother William Rogers, Jr.; son and daughter in law Larry and Wanda Rogers; daughter and son in law Susan and Jim Clayton; five grandchildren Jeremiah and wife LeAnne Rogers, Joseph Clayton, Rachel Carlen and husband Kevin, Tifni Mantooth and husband Steven and Tisha Rogers; four great-grandchildren, Savanna and Jacob Mantooth and Manhattan and Eli Carlen. Special thanks to Covenant HomeCare Hospice. Funeral 8pm Monday November 16, 2009 in the Kyker Chapel with Kenny Plemons and Rev. Eddie Chasteen officiating. Burial 11am Tuesday at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Carlen, Steven Mantooth, Joseph Clayton, Charlie McKinney, David Pierce and Steve Grigsby. Honorary pallbearer Jeremiah Rogers, who is in Iraq. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, 922 Delaware Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37921. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Monday at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
