Katharine "Katie" Ownby, 97, of Ashland, Va., the widow of Lawrence "Pop" Ownby, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005. Katie and Lawrence had seven children of which Ruth Tyo of Ashland, Va., Priscilla O. Harman and husband, Richard of Richmond, Va., and Lawrence "Larry" Ownby, Jr., of Mechanicsville, Va., survive her.Survivors also include 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Moore of Tellico Plains and Annie Ownby of Cleveland; and two brothers, Luke Wakefield of Tellico Plains and Claude Wakefield of Sweetwater.Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday with burial in Woodland Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad.* jwalker@nelsenfh.com
