Amos Whaley, 63, a resident of Route One, Franklinton, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, July 25th, at the Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton.
He was an employee of the Crown-Zellerbach Box Factory, was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Duette Magee Whaley of Franklinton; eight sons, Jack Whaley, Joe Whaley, Adney Whaley, Loyd Whaley, Don Whaley, Tim Whaley, Raymond Whaley and Bobby Whaley; a brother, Haze Whaley of Franklinton; three sisters, Mrs. Virgie manning of Tennessee, Mrs. Alberta Robertson of Burnsville, North Carolina, and Mrs. Elimia Suttle of Knoxville, Tennessee; and 16 grandchildren.
The body lay in state at the Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton until the time for funeral services, which were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27th, at the Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Charles Kennedy and Elder James Broome officiating.
Interment was in the Whaley Family Cemetery with Military Rites at graveside.
Active pallbearers were William Magee, Dale Magee, Jerry Lane Creel, Joseph Magee, James Maier, and Harold Buchanan.
Honorary pallbearers were Vernon Jenkins, Tim Thomas, Leston McKenzie, Loyd George, Larry Wayne Scott, Dr. Mark L. James, the Rev. Tom Wheat, and Eugene Sprehe.
