Hal went to be with his Eternal Father 7-12-2015. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years Judy Mae (Thomas) Watson, His daughter, Stephanie Cunningham and son In Law Tom Cunningham, His son Hal Watson Jr. and daughter In Law Janice Watson, and his son Bryan Watson and Son in Law Dan Hurst of Miami FL. He leaves his three grandchildren, Hal Watson III, Roger Watson and Sarah Cunningham. He also leaves behind a brother and sister In Law, Michael Watson and wife Karen, and other sister In Law, Wanda Watson. He was preceded in death by his Mother & Father, Frank Evans and Mary Gladys Watson and his Mother & Father in Law Ralph Bryan and Dorothy Mae (Foster) Thomas. Also proceeded in death by his Brother in Law Robert H. Cooper and Sister in Law June M (Thomas) Cooper of McDonough GA. & his loving Brother David Neil Watson.
Hal was a 1960 graduate of Sevier County High School. He was retired from WBIR Chanel 10 NBC Knoxville after completing 46 years of service. Throughout his career in television he held many positions but is best known for his various roles portraying different characters in the long running Heartland Series produced by WBIR. Hal was also Captain of the 4th Judicial District Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit where he served the residents of Sevier and surrounding counties for over 20 years.
He was born and raised up on a farm and he continued to farm all of his life. An avid hunter, he loved dogs, whether listening to his coon dogs chasing a raccoon through the East Tennessee nights, to the English Setter bird dogs he would raise and train for quail hunting back in the 60's. From 1992 to the present he raised and enjoyed the American Quarter Horse. Hal loved to spend time trail riding and camping with his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Knob Creek Baptist Church in Seymour, TN.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 14th, 2015 from 4-7pm at Atchley Funeral Home Seymour. The funeral will be held on Wednesday July 15th, 2015 at 11 am in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Reverend Terry Parton & Reverend W.A. Galyon officiating, followed with the procession to Knob Creek Baptist Cemetery for the graveside services. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
