Joseph Gulyash, age 90 of Sevierville, passed away the morning of Monday, October 9, 2006 at Sevier County Health Care Center. Joe attended St. Catherine High School in Racine, Wisconsin, Lake Forrest College in Lake Forrest, Illinois and University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Gulyash served in the United States Air Force as Colonel and had a distinguished career as an ophthalmologist while serving and in private practice. He was a founding member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a former commander of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Gulyash was on the Board of Directors of Walter State Community College and loved sports and travel.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Julia Gulyas, son Joseph Gulyash and brother Steve Gulyas.
Funeral mass 11 AM Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Jay Flaherty officiating. Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)

Mr. Gulyash was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by: wife, Blanche Gulyash; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Cindy Gulyash of Santa Maria, CA; Karl Gulyash of Ukiah, CA; Peter Gulyash of Illinois; Michael Gulyash of CA; daughters and sons-in-law, Toni Black of CA; Susan Turner of OR; Christina Stockton of CA; step-daughters and spouses, Shirley and Bill Sage of Bentonville, AR; Donna and Carl Duke of WA; sisters, Elizabeth Hagen and Ethel Serles, both of WI.
