JEANNIE GREGORY TOWNSHEND, 66, of Memphis, died Tuesday, March 21,2006 at her home. Visitation will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church Parlor. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church Wilson Chapel. She was born in Alcoa, TN, and moved to Memphis 45 years ago. She helped start the United Cerebral Palsy affiliate in Memphis and served as Special Events Director and Vice President for 26 years. She was a member of Subsidium and three Red Hatters groups, a Fair representative for Youth Talent, judging contests throughout the Mid-South. She was a well known bridge player and played competitive tennis in Memphis in the 70's. She was a tireless worker for people with disabilities. She leaves three sons, Gregory Townshend of Henning, TN, Scott Townshend of Atlanta, GA, and Brady Townshend of Gulf Shores, AL; her mother, Edith Blair; a sister, Lynn Webb, and a brother, Wayne Gregory, all of Alcoa, TN, and eight grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be sent to United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South, 4189 Leroy Ave., Memphis, TN 38108.
