Bettis Benson, 78, of Dandridge and Gatlinburg, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016. She was born March 8, 1938 in Gatlinburg. Dorothy married her husband, Jerry Benson, on May 7, 1957. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Jackson Benson; and her parents, Luke and Joe Bettis. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jerry Jackson "Jack" Benson, Jr., and Terry Andrew Benson and his wife, Sarah Benson; daughter, Karen Benson Gregg and her husband, Steven; grandchildren, Brandy R. Myers and her husband, Joshua, Jerry Jackson Benson, III and his wife, Shannon, Jillian Blaik Benson, and Taylor Anne Benson; great-grandsons: Logan Reece and Seth Owen Benson; sister, Clara Drinnen; and brother, Gene Bettis; nieces, Amanda Hemphill and Diane Parton; nephew, Eric Bettis; special friends, Bob McKay, Betty and J.T. King, Charlotte Blalock, and the Pi Beta Phi Class of 1957; and many other life-time friends. The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to UT Hospice and the Dandridge Senior Center and all their staff members for their compassion and gentle care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sevier County Food Ministries, P.O. Box 6042, Sevierville, TN 37864-6042. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, November 6th with the funeral service to follow at 4 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Dr. David Ayers will be officiating. Family and friends will meet at Noon on Monday in Atchley's Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, 220 Emert Street, Pigeon Forge, TN for the graveside service and interment.
