James G. Ford "Jay", age 86, of South Knoxville, born September 14, 1930 passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 after a lingering illness. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church, a church family, he was blessed to share his life.
He was a 1950-1954 Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy Flag Division under five Admirals. His service to his country was an important part of his life. He was a 32cnd degree Mason a 51 year member of Charles H. McKinney Lodge # 433.
He retired after 36 years from H.T. Hackney Company. A company that was like family to him and customers he served became loyal friends.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Della and William F. Ford, sisters, Roetta Jones, Agnes Fine, Flora Farrell, Vivian Ford, and Eva Lickliter, brothers, Adrian Ford, Horace Ford, Letcher and Eugene Marsh.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Blair Ford, sisters, Neita Gibby and Evelyn Burgin, brother, James J.R. Ford, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shelba and Gene Moore, special nieces and nephews, Denise Young, Traci Smith, Greg Moore, Danny and Kerry Young, J.T., Jessie, Kim, Tana, and Rodney Ford. Many other nieces, nephews and family members who he loved dearly.
Special thanks to many for words and deeds during his illness, Sharon Ward, Wanda and Ralph Whitt, Denny and Linda Ogle, Dot Prater, Special neighbors of Kimberlin Subdivision and U.T. Hospital cancer staff where "Jay" was known as the "Candy Man".
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Meridian Baptist Church 6513 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920.
Honorary pallbearers: Julian G. Morton, Mike Morton, Wm. Samson, Boyd Jarnigan, Dean Ballinger, Steve Stilts, Tim Neal, Dr. Wahid Hanna, Dr. James W. Cox, Dr. Douglass Hembree, and Dr. Jason Kennedy.
Funeral service 7 PM Thursday in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Interment 9:30 AM Friday in East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104.
